Devotions In Music: Give Me Jesus

“In Your presence is the fullness of joy.” Psalm 16:11

Coffee mugs come in all shapes and sizes and often have a story to tell. Funny, rhyming, thoughtful, and rewarding. I found a few that made me smile.

“Coffee, coffee, it’s our drink, If we don’t get it, we don’t think.”

“Be nice to your Kids… They will be choosing your nursing home!”.”

“I’m really not a Control Freak, but could I show you the right way to do that?”

“Dad! The Man, The Myth, The Legend!”

One year for my birthday, I got one that simply said, “Give Me Jesus”. The mug brought a smile to my heart. Does every time I pick it up. The story it tells is one I never wanna forget. It is the answer to all I long for.

In the morning when I rise, give me Jesus.

Each morning, Jesus invites me to grab that cup of coffee, His word, my journal and a pen. He has something he wants to tell me. He has secrets he wants to share. Will I join him?

When I am alone, give me Jesus.

Some days life feels hard. I feel alone, even with other people around. What I long to hear is I am not alone and I am loved, even when I don’t feel like it. Jesus is waiting for me to climb up on the couch and whisper, “I love you!” Will I turn to him?

When I come to die, give me Jesus.

Someday I will be facing what we all face. Our physical bodies will wear out and it will be time to go home. Jesus will be waiting then as well. He will open His arms and say, “Welcome home! I’ve been waiting.” Will I be ready?

Psalm 16 reminds me, “In His presence is the fullness of joy”. That is true today. No need to wait. That fullness will fill my needs in ways I can’t truly understand, but I am trying. So for now, I will grab that coffee cup and pull up a chair. Just give me Jesus.
